‘Charleston’s Finest’ Campaign Benefits Those with Cystic Fibrosis

Date Written by Jason Keeling on September 1, 2007

The first two weeks of September are going to be busy for six Charleston area professionals, including myself, as we raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and compete for the namesake of “Charleston’s Finest.” The goal is simple: Raise as much money as possible, via direct contributions and ticket sales for the Sept. 15 Charleston’s Finest Gala at Embassy Suites in Charleston.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene causes the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and this substance obstructs the pancreas, stopping natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

The CFF has been working since 1955 in pursuit of a cure and also helping those with the disease and their families live a better life. Know that 90% of every dollar raised goes directly to fund such efforts.

Update: Congratulations to top fundraisers Jim Strawn of Highland Hospital and Joanna Tabit of Steptoe & Johnson, who were recognized as “Charleston’s Finest” on Sept. 15. Kudos also to the efforts of Ken Lindsay, Tri-State Roofing & Sheet Metal Co.; Financial Advisory Greg Hernandez; Kristi Rhule, Brickstreet Insurance and emcee Jim Barach of WCHS-TV8/Fox 11.
